The Rossecker
The Rossecker are a registered society that cultivates folkloristic traditions and customs in a special way.
Founded in 1920 and named after the mountain “Rosseck” (1664m elev.) the priority of the Rosseckers is the emphasis on activities with children, teenagers and young adults.
Above all, the cooperation and the exchange of ideas between the generations is a maxim of our society.
In 1967 we brought a child and teenage folkdance group into existence and till this day we try to support a sense of community by arranging games- and sportsevents in our free time.
Our success with this group and the number of members show that the younger generation can be very enthusiastic about National Traditions.
The folkloristic importance of our society can be seen in many different fields of activity.
It reaches from creative arrangements over cultivating folkloristic traditions and amateur plays to folksongs, folkdances (especially the “Schuhplattler”) and the care and presentation of our national dresses - the leatherpants and dirndls.
All of our women wear the “Eisenwurzen” holiday dress or the “Liesingtal” Sunday dresses, each one handmade. The girls wear a dirndl typical for the “Veitsch”, the men and boys present themselves in their styrian leatherpants.
The most apparent sign for our success is the prize “Wanderbanner” for the best styrian folkdancegroup in the years 1990, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019/20 as well as being the best group in dancing the “Schuhplattler” in 2003 – 2018.
For all these achievements reached by our society in the past years we were honoured with the culture prize of the town of Bruck/ Mur, the Josef-Krainer national prize and the Styrian nation Prize for Folk Arts.
